The second installment of Good Omens is coming our way at the end of July, and based on the clip that Amazon just released, it looks like Crowley (David Tennant)—like many of us (all of us, really)—is musing about what’s the point of everything, anyway?

Tennant’s demon with a heart of gold (though he would never admit it) appears to be a bit untethered after the events from the first season, which, of course, was based on the eponymous book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. We’re in unknown territory for Good Omens 2 since there isn’t any published source material fans are familiar with. Gaiman has said, however, that the story is not the sequel that he and Pratchett outlined decades ago, but a new tale that bridges the events from the first book to that unwritten second novel. The story that he and Pratchett came up with, however, could be the source material for a potential third season if that happens to get greenlit by Amazon.

The Good Omens 2 story, based on the trailer and synopsis at least, appears to be centered on the events that occur after an amnesiac, toddler-like Gabriel (Jon Hamm) shows up at Aziraphale’s (Michael Sheen) bookshop. The end of the clip above seems to hint at this, as Crowley’s replacement, Shax (Miranda Richardson), says there’s something going on… up there.

We’ll get to learn what the scuttlebutt is all about when the six-episode second season of Good Omens premieres on Prime Video on July 28, 2023. In the meantime, you can rewatch the first season on Prime Video.
